The National Association of Catering and Events’ San Francisco chapter held their annual gala and fundraiser last week. N.A.C.E. is an association for event industry professionals committed to providing superior education, networking & resources to enhance career success and deliver excellence to clients. I have attended many insightful meetings and met several of my wonderful vendors through the group and their events. Having finished my last wedding of 2013 on Monday, the gala seemed like the perfect way to celebrate a successful season. Then I heard about the design competition. Even though my new mommy brain said “no, no, I need rest,” my professional and go-getter brain shouted “bring it on!” So I applied and was selected to compete among talented event designers at the gala.
To showcase my work in front of so many peers was pretty nerve-racking. But it was all worth it, as getting awarded as the Judge’s Pick winner in front of them is one of the most memorable moments in my career so far. I have to thank my vendors who helped me bring my whimsical and romantic vision to life.
Frances Lane Event Rentals for providing the decorative tabletop items, La Fleuriste for understanding my love of flowers and whimsy, La Tavola Fine Linen and the girls in their SF showroom for always welcoming me with a smile when I drop in to play with linens and pull swatches, Pretty Please Bakeshop for making the Swedish cake place cards, DJ Jason Mitchell for contributing the uplighting and a big thanks to Chung Li for taking these beautiful photos of my table.
It was an honor to be included in a group of such creative people. Thank you to my competitors, who designed gorgeous tablescapes of their own, and to the judge’s who noticed the small details and personal touches on my table. Outside of the competition, the event itself was beautiful and so much fun. Shout out to the Gala Committee who put it on this year – you did a splendid job!
