I’ve always been a California girl at heart, with a love for the ocean and the golden sunlight that seems to only exist in our beautiful state. When Ned and I met, we were working in San Francisco, and our trips to southern California were frequent and joy-filled: so when it came time to style our engagement photo shoot, I knew exactly what I wanted it to look like. Working with FABULOUS photographers was a great way to ensure that our look came out exactly as we envisioned it – and starting with a pin-spiration board on Pinterest really helped me corral and curate all of our ideas into a single cohesive design.
Here are some killer inspirations from our golden hour engagement shoot:
Our photographers, Jake and Necia, nailed the look. Here is a favorite from our engagement shoot.

The autumnal harvest is in full swing this month – and unless you’ve been living under a pile of leaves recently, fall is everywhere! We see it in shop windows and driving down the street, and as wedding planners, we love seeing the season make an appearance in small parts of a wedding design. What better place to start than with the photos you take to celebrate your engagement? Today, we’re dishing on our favorite fall engagement inspiration. The rules of thumb for a perfect autumn engagement session include incorporating nature in an organic fashion, staying away from overly posed or cheesy studio-like shots, and making the photos reflective of the couple’s style. From the foliage to the fashion, the overall mood of the collection of images should feel bold, deep, and warm – a perfect final hurrah before winter’s first chill. A lot of this will be handled behind the lens by your photographer, but don’t be afraid to speak up if you have strong feelings about the shoot. Not a big fan of buffalo plaid or leaf piles? You can choose to keep things golden and harvest-like by incorporating simple fall tones into your attire and choosing a backdrop that reflects your personality. Feeling adventurous? A hike through the trees or a canoe on the lake is a perfect opportunity for your photographer to capture all of the beauty of fall around you both, with your love and engagement at the forefront of the image. Whatever your preference, if you keep the focus on you and your fiancé(e), your photos are certain to come out beautifully.
Better late than never, right? That’s what I’m going with for this post. About a year ago, I designed a romantic ceremony setting under the stars in front the Conservatory of Flowers as part of Blu Bungalow’s annual Beyond Blu Bungalow Venue Tours. Blueprint Studios provided the rentals, while Florabella Studios curated the flowers.
In pulling images by the lovely and talented Milou +Olin Photography for our recent article on the Best Outdoor Venues in the Bay Area, I was reminded just how amazing everything came together and had to share more with you!
As guests arrived via Classic Cable Cars, the illuminated staircase beckoned them towards the Conservatory. The candles that lined the staircase and aisle were provided by GlassyBaby, who not only sell their beautifully colored votives, but rents them for events. The flower arrangements were by Florabella Studios and all rentals were from BluePrint Studio.
Guests enjoyed a bridal fashion show with beautiful gowns from Kinsley James Bridal Salon before heading inside for libations, tasty bites and more wedding inspiration. Below are my favorite images of the ceremony as captured by Milou + Olin Photography. Be sure to jump over to the article in Modern Luxury Magazine for more photos from the event, including the amazing vignettes designed by our colleagues and friends that were on display inside the pavilion.
A traditional rug and mirrored desk anchor the altar space while cherry colored blooms with pink ranunculus, berries and overflowing foliage pop against the whites of the conservatory and create an ever-so-romantic setting.
I chose mismatched, distressed chairs with mirrored side tables placed sparingly throughout to add texture and interest to the space, without distracting from the beautiful surroundings. Eclectic while still refined. Don’t you just love this mixed look?
