I wanted to share insight into my dedication to Weddings. This Winter I completed what is considered by many as the MBA program of all Wedding Planner Certification courses. At the time, I was a wedding planner assistant at Allure Consulting, whose founders were certified through the same program. For me it was not a matter of if I was going to obtain further education to get certified, but a matter of when. Although it is not necessary to have your wedding planner certification, I believe that as specialists, we owe it to our clients to have the best training possible. Upon learning about the comprehensive in-class program from my colleagues, I decided to add to my experience by following in their footsteps.
Held at Cal State East Bay, the course is taught by Joyce Scardina Becker of Events of Distinction, a Bay Area Wedding Planner with over 25 years of experience. It was even featured on Project Wedding. The course is not for the faint of heart. There are 5 in class sessions totaling 45 hours (without breaks). The material is thorough and intensive, demanding at least 200 hours of work between sessions. I completed the program with a 5 hour exam to obtain my certificate. That’s a lot of hours, but to me it was worth every minute. The reality is Wedding Planning is more than fluffing dresses and making things pretty (though I do love this part of the job), but it has a lot to do with logistics and details. In fact, the class confirmed just how pertinent my background in project management truly is the wedding planning, and I completed the program feeling extremely confident in my services.
The knowledge I gained from Joyce’s certification course is invaluable to me and to my clients. And I hope to be hanging a certificate in my office this Fall.
Joie de Vivre!
